NCP was first founded as a small operation in West London.
Central Car Parks started by Ronald Hobson, joined by Donald Gosling. They recognised the need for parking spaces in London and began acquiring city center sites to build car parks.
Central Car Parks acquired NCP, leading to significant growth and development.
By the 1990s, NCP became one of the UK's most successful privately owned organizations. This success attracted interest from prospective buyers.
Acquired by US firm Cendant. The company shifted focus from property ownership to a service-oriented model, rebranding as National Car Parks (NCP).
Launched the UK’s first public-private partnership in car parking by establishing NCP Manchester Ltd with Manchester City Council. Entered a 35-year deal with Bolton City Council to manage 22 sites and oversee the construction of three multi-storey car parks.
New customer service staff were introduced to patrol car parks on bicycles.
Sold to buyout firm Civeo.
Became a market leader in managing parking contracts for local authorities, including vehicle removal and debt recovery services.
Separated into two distinct companies: National Car Parks Limited (parking operations) and NCP Services Ltd(service-based operations).
Sold to private equity house 3i, reflecting ongoing interest in NCP's business.
Sold to Park24, a Japanese strategic buyer, and the Development Bank of Japan Inc. (DBJ), a Japanese government-owned financial institution.
Since being acquired by Park 24, a Japanese company based in Tokyo, National Car Parks (NCP) is once again a growing, profit-making business, driving innovation into the future. Park 24 is a major operator with over a million parking spaces across 19,000 sites in eight countries. In addition to parking, Park 24 operates successful car rental and car-sharing businesses. Their mission is to provide every service needed for a comfortable automobile society, and NCP is proud to be part of this global vision.
